“Barbenheimer” fever continues to sweep the box office.
After six days of release, the inextricably linked “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer” have reached notable theatrical milestones, with ticket sales for Greta Gerwig’s fantasia romp crossing $200 million and Christopher Nolan’s somberi, three-hour biopic “Oppenheimer” surpassing $100 million.
“Oppenheimer,” meanwhile, is one of only 19 movies this year to hit the $100 million mark. It’s a significant milestone for a historical drama that unfolds largely in dreary rooms of fast-talking scientists and politicians. The film added $12 million on Tuesday, bringing its North America haul to $107 million.
The movie, starring Cillian Murphy as theoretical physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer, who led the development of the atomic bomb, carries a $100 million price tag. For Universal, which backed the film, it already appears to be money well spent. “Oppenheimer” has grossed $130.8 million at the international box office and $238 million globally.

The production designer Sarah Greenwood who designed the weird Barbie house shared her thoughts. “One of my early references is that you go up the stairs, and there’s the ‘Psycho’ house, and we brought in other elements.” Its design was deliberately skewed with everything pushed out of shape and out of order,” she says. “It has a swimming pool in front, and we painted a shark at the bottom of it,” she adds. “We added Weird Barbie’s cat. Like everything else, it’s camouflaged. But her cat is 4 ft. 6 in. and it’s a cutout looking at the shark.”

After weeks of promotional appearances, Barbie held its world premiere in Los Angeles, California on July 9. The film officially hit theatres on July 21. The film’s runtime has been revealed as 113 minutes, or one hour and 54 minutes long. As of yet, there is no schedule for a digital release, though this could be expected around 45 days after in line with the studio’s history. While nothing is set in stone, audiences could be seeing the Barbie movie online as soon as September 2023. Barbie will initially be released exclusively in movie theatres.
