Another win for Chestnut

Joey Chestnut has made his way to another win at Nathan’s famous Hot Dog Eating Contest in the United States, eating 62 frankfurters in their buns in just 10 minutes. In an international field of 15 competitive eaters to win his 16th title after a two-hour delay, Joey managed to eat 62 hot dogs. Chestnut was pretty disappointed because he didn’t manage to eat more this time as before but he said, he has plans to push his body to new limits in the upcoming future. In an interview 39 year old Joey chestnut said , “It was  a roller coaster, emotionally,”. Chestnut began competing for Nathan’s title in 2005 and has not lost till 2015. His best performance was two years ago when he managed to consume 76 hot dogs which was a world record.

Meanwhile in the women’s contest,Miki sudo who is a  defending champion and world-record holder ate 39 and a half hot dogs and buns to collect her ninth Mustard Belt. Sudo also seemed disappointed in her winning total, which was nine hot dogs of her all-time high. She said 27-year-old Mayoi Ebihara, who emerged the runner-up, had distracted her almost all time. She says,“The first couple minutes, I found myself watching her, which I never want to do. I never want to be distracted by the other competitors,” Sudo said after the competition. “Watching her, I fumbled my hands. I got stuck with a big burp early on but was able to correct.”

Weather disaster

The Independence Day event brought thousands of people to Coney Island, New York, on Tuesday to watch competitive eaters eat as many hot dogs as their stomachs allow in just 10 minutes. In that time  major rain and lightning storm hit Coney Island around noon, shortly before the men were set to come out to compete. The weather delay lasted for about two hours, and the event began again at around 2 p.m. The National Weather Service issued a weather statement warning of “strong thunderstorms” and “frequent cloud to ground lightning” in parts of Brooklyn, specifically mentioning Coney Island. 

As per event’s information

The event began with festivities, including music and dance performances, according to the Professional League of Eating Contests. Eaters need to be 18 or older to enter and must have participated in a qualifying event in May or June. Nathan’s hosted four qualifying events for the big show, with the top male and female finishers. Each contestant has their own scorekeeper to monitor their running total, according to CNN affiliate WABC. On top of that the eater in each category takes home $10,000, according to WABC. Second place takes $5,000, third place gets $2,500, fourth place gets $1,500, and fifth place wins $1,000. Each champion also receives the coveted Mustard Belt.
