Let’s get started to know about the X.com?
X.com is a domain owned by Elon Musk that he has repurposed for his rebranding of Twitter. Originally, X.com was an online banking company co-founded by Musk in 1999, which later merged with Confinity and became PayPal. The domain X.com has historical significance for Musk, reflecting his long-standing vision for an integrated financial and social platform.
Currently, under Musk’s ownership, X.com serves as the new identity for Twitter as part of his ambition to transform it into an “everything app.” This concept involves expanding beyond traditional social media functions to include services like payments, shopping, and potentially more, making it a versatile platform for various online activities. The rebranding to X.com symbolizes this shift and Musk’s broader aspirations for the platform.
With the formal change of the website name to X.com, Elon Musk has finished rebranding Twitter, the dynamic social media network that he purchased in 2022. The platform owner confirmed that the change in a post early Friday morning, saying, “All core systems are now on X.com.”A popup message alerting users to the change reads: “We are letting you know that we are changing our URL, but your privacy and data protection settings remain the same.” Previously, there was still some back-and-forth with the URLs: You’d still see the Twitter.com URL if that’s what you typed to access the site, but using the Share button on a post produced a link that started with X.com, for example.
The letter X has also been utilized by Musk to mark his other companies. He established a business named XAI, for instance, last year. However, Musk has been fascinated with X for his enterprises for decades. In 1999, he co founded a financial services company under the name X.com, which would later combine with PayPal. Not to add that he is SpaceX’s boss.
When some Verge employees discovered they could copy x.com links from the share sheet within X’s iOS app, the URLs began to shift back in August of last year. Brian Krebs stated last month that the awkward change has made phishing assaults easier to launch. While the URL change might seem to signal an end-of-an-era moment for Twitter, the reality is, Musk is probably still facing a long, uphill, arguably futile battle to make everyone forget “Twitter” was ever a thing. Get rid of all the bird logos you want, it’ll probably be a cold day in hell before anyone starts saying, “Check out this dumb Elon Musk X,” instead of, “Check out this dumb Elon Musk tweet.”
As part of his larger plan to develop a “everything app” under the X brand, Elon Musk renamed Twitter as “X“. This modification is in line with Musk’s long-term goal of creating a comprehensive platform that extends beyond social networking and may include a number of services including messaging, payments, and other features. Musk has been impacted by the popularity of other “super apps” in other regions of the world, such China’s WeChat, which combines several services into one platform. His intention to shift Twitter in the direction of this larger, more comprehensive paradigm is evident in the rebranding.
