When you believed the idea was doomed to fail forever, along came. The Australian billionaire Clive Palmer has brought his long-held goal of building Titanic II back to life. Palmer has re-announced plans to replicate the doomed liner, with a scheduled launch date of 2027, following several failed starts, shelved plans, and much chatter.

In a news conference at the Sydney Opera House, Palmer (the fifth-richest man in Australia) stated that, “We are very pleased to announce that after unforeseen global delays, we have re-engaged with partners to bring the dream of Titanic II to life, Let the journey begin.

When will it be built and what might be the cost?

Although the tickets have not been disclosed, it is likely that they will be significantly higher than those from 1912, when first-class berths cost $150, the four Parlor suites cost $4,350, and third-class staterooms cost roughly $40. While T2 will have additional lifeboats and a design that conforms with all current safety rules, the blueprints for the ship are remarkably similar to those for the previous iteration. In light of this, the initiative is supported by the Finnish ship design and marine engineering firm Deltamarin, according to cruise writer Dave Monk. Tillberg Design, a Swedish firm that specializes in interior design and marine architecture, and V.Ships Leisure are reportedly two more international partners.

“835 cabins, including 383 first-class, 201 second-class, and 251 third-class rooms, catering for up to 2,435 passengers,” according to a press release, are anticipated on Titanic II, which will sail under the flagship business Blue Star Line (the original was part of the White Star Line). It will measure 105 feet in width and 833 feet in length. Measuring 883 feet long and 92 feet wide, it was the first Titanic. “835 cabins, including 383 first-class, 201 second-class, and 251 third-class rooms, catering for up to 2,435 passengers,” according to a press release, are anticipated on Titanic II, which will sail under the flagship business Blue Star Line (the original was part of the White Star Line). “The essence of this venture is to offer passengers an unparalleled journey back in time, immersing them fully in the opulence and splendor of life aboard the original Titanic, thus bridging a century with a voyage of unparalleled elegance,” Palmer said.

Why is it taking so long for it to sail and not to sink?

The general consensus at the time, more than ten years ago, was that he was wealthy and eccentric enough to build a more buoyant version of the Titanic.  However, the pandemic’s headwinds forced the multimillion-dollar effort to halt as ports closed and travelers reevaluated their willingness to take the chance of being isolated at sea.  The moment has come, according to Palmer, chairman of the Blue Star Line firm behind the project, to bring his Titanic dream back to life now that the pandemic has passed and cruise ships are back at sea. It is said that the ship will be ready in 2027.

The Titanic was built by the White Star Line and was one of the largest and most luxurious ocean liners of its time. It set sail from Southampton, England, on April 10, 1912, bound for New York City. However, on the night of April 14–15, 1912, the ship struck an iceberg and began to sink. Due to a lack of lifeboats and a failure to adequately prepare for such an emergency, over 1,500 people lost their lives in the frigid waters of the Atlantic. The disaster prompted significant changes in maritime safety regulations, including the requirement of lifeboat space for all passengers, the establishment of the International Ice Patrol to monitor icebergs in the North Atlantic, and the formation of the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) treaty.

The sinking of the Titanic has captured the public imagination for over a century, inspiring books, documentaries, and films that continue to recount the tragic events of that fateful night. And now people still believe that the Titanic will also reach its same destination. Though the team is still working on its progress,it’s believed that it would have the best luxury and safety hazards.
